Who is responsible
Matt Woodley, our editor, is accountable for everything we publish and approves each card and page for publication. A card can appear in a “Best for” list, be named a winner or get a Best Score only once it is approved. A card that passes our automated checks but isn’t approved yet can appear only in our comparison tools, labelled as such wherever it appears.
Independence
Card issuers have no say in what we write, how we rank cards or which cards we include. Commission, when we earn it, never changes the order. How we get paid.
Where figures come from
- Every rate, fee and reward comes from the issuer’s own published terms or product page, never from another comparison site.
- We save a dated copy of each page we use, and record the issuer’s exact words behind each figure. An automated check fails if those words aren’t in the saved copy.
- If a figure isn’t published, we say “Not published” and explain why. We never estimate it.
- We say exactly how we checked: “checked against the issuer’s published terms” means we read their pages. We only say we have used a card if we have.
Keeping figures current
Each card shows the date its figures were last checked. An automated job re-reads every issuer page we rely on each week and publishes the result in our change log. A card whose page changed is flagged until its record is updated and checked again.
How we check every figure
Our figures are checked by tests that run every time the site is built, so a wrong number stops the page from publishing:
- Every figure is quoted. Each rate, fee and reward is stored with the issuer’s exact words, and an automated test fails if those words aren’t in our saved, dated copy of the issuer’s page.
- A second, independent check. A separate automated test confirms that each stored number (an annual fee, an APR, a cash back rate) is the number those quoted words actually state. A figure that fails it can’t be published.
- Weekly re-checks. Every issuer page is re-read each week, and the result is published unedited in our change log. A card whose page changed is flagged wherever it’s ranked until its record is updated.
- Nothing estimated, nothing invented. A figure the issuer doesn’t publish shows as “Not published”. We never claim to have used a card, never quote experts we haven’t spoken to, and never present a summary as a review.
- A named person is accountable. Matt Woodley approves cards and pages for publication and answers for mistakes, which we correct in the open.
Mistakes
When we get something wrong, we correct it and record it in our corrections log.
Not financial advice
We compare cards from their published terms. We don’t know your circumstances, and we can’t tell you whether you’ll be approved. Read each issuer’s terms before you apply.
